Perry Petalite prospect, Peru, Oxford Co., Maine, USA

Oxford pegmatite field. (This site was mined in the late 1990s by Cal Birtic and Dick Dionne. They excavated a considerable amount of the pegmatite depost available at the site, but did not disturb the historical prospect trench excavated by Nate Perry in the 1870s - leaving it as a historical monument. It was felt that - in light of the finds made excavating the bulk of the deposit - the volume of pegmatite left in order to preserve the historic site was not likely to hold anything significant enough to warrant the destruction of the trench. The mineral list which follows is based largely on the finds made during the modern mining.)
