Cowboy Mine, Dripping Springs, Banner District, Dripping Spring Mts, Gila Co., Arizona, USA

Latitude: 33°7'52"N
Longitude: 110°50'44"W
A former underground Au-Ag-Pb-V-Mo-Cu-Hg-Zn mine located in the E sec. 31, T3S, R15E, about 1¼ miles SE of Dripping Spring, 1½ miles E of Manhattan Mountain, about 8 miles NW of Christmas, on state land. Produced 1895-1925. Owned by the Dripping Springs Co. Operated by C.W. McGraw (1923).

Mineralization is a shear zone occupied by a rhyodacite dike. Another cross-cutting shear zone strikes N25E. The deposit is hosted in the Mescal Limestone. The ore zone strikes N80W and dips 80S. Gold occurs in coarse wire form and occurs in pockets, particularly where the vein is in limestone. Ore control was along the contact with diabase, in a dike and along its contact with Mescal Limestone.

Area structures include an E-W-trending rhyodacite porphyry dike, and NNE-trending faults. Mescal Limestone strikes NW and dips 10-15S or SE. N-S-trending faults exist through the area. The fault closest to the mine is to the NNE; diabase intrusion to the south, and Mescal Limestone and Dripping Springs Quartzite to the north.

Workings include two shafts shallow shafts and several pits. One shaft is 50 feet deep, with a 250 foot tunnel. Two shafts 50 and 75 feet (22.76 meters) deep were present in 1923. ABGMT-USBM files do not include early production or production past 1919.
