The vesicular basalt cobbles from which the mineralization is found are located on the eastern bank of the Columbia River at Rock Island Dam, which is in Douglas County. This material was removed from the bed of the river, which spans the border of Douglas and Chelan Counties, during the construction of the dam in the early 1930s and has been in its current location for over 75 years.
