Hochobir Mt., Karawanken Mts, Carinthia, Austria

(Hochobir, Karawanken, Kärnten, Österreich)

Pb-Zn deposit in triassic limestones and carbonatites on Hochobir mountain. The geological environment and the mineralization are very similar to those at Bad Bleiberg. The earliest reports of mining activities in this area date back to the 16th century, but the deposit was probably worked already in the 12th century. The last mines were abandoned after the first world war. Extensive dumps are still remaining on the east slope near the Eisenkappeler Hütte (Seealpe district).
