Mineralization is an irregular ore body hosted in the Modoc Limestone, Morenci Shale and Longfelow Limestone. Associated rock units are the Morenci Granite Porphyry and the Coronado Quartzite. Ore control was the NE-trending Williams vein, which follows a porphyry dike of greatly varying width. Ore is concentrated along the contact between the sedimentary rocks and porphyry The lode follows the Apache fault zone onn the SE side of the property. Ore concentration was extensive surface leaching zone immediately adjoined by chalcocite ore bodies. Cuprite occurs at the upper limit of the chalcocite zone near the contact of porphyry and metamorphic rock (at depths of 200 to 300 feet) as a decomposition product of chalcocite. Secondary enrichment occurred along fissure veins. Alteraton includes sericitization of granite with the introdction of pyrite and chalcopyrite in veinlets.
Area structures include E-trending fissre veins. A porphyry dike of 500 feet maximum width cnnects in tw places with the main porphyry mass of Copper Mountain. NE-trending fissure veins are partly in porphyry and partly in contact-metamorphosed limestones. veins occasionally outcrop on the surface. The Apache Fault, striking N45°W, 65°NE, is associated with the faults that cut the deposit.
Tectonic component is the complex Copper Mountain Fault System with substantial vertical displacement. Falt blocks generally downthrow to the NE.
