A former Pb occurrence/mine located in sec. 10, T99N, R4W, NW of Lansing.
Deposit: Gen the mine was discovered in 1891, and had produced 500,000 pounds of lead concentrates by 1895. The galena is reported to contain 2.6 to 4 oz ag/ton, much more than that from other mines in the upper mississippi valley district. Cadastral location: sec. 10, t. 99 n., r. 4 w. ; info.src : cobb
Geology: N85 cerussite (near the surface) and galena (at depth) fill a near-vertical fissure vein trending N 10 w, following a minor fault. The vein is 3 to 18 inches thick, and was mined to a depth of up to 300 feet over a strike length of 1,200 feet. Most of the ore was in the oneota, but some was found in the trempealeau formation.
Rock formation(s): Oneota Dolomite
