Rough Gas Field, Block 47/3, Offshore, Humberside, England, UK

This gas field was discovered and developed in the 1960s and when depleted was re-drilled in the 1980s to be re-injected with gas produced from other areas and thus used as a storage facilty.
The reservoir consists of aeolian and wadi sandstones of the Permian Rotliegendes formation which lie below the Zechstein group of evaporites. During the redevelopment in the 80s, an oil-based drilling fluid was employed, so all the water-soluble minerals in the evaporites were returned to surface as drilled cuttings.
