A former underground Au-Ag-Cu-Pb mine on 6 unpatented claims. Located 2½ miles SE of Bagdad. Started in the 1880's. Relocated and reopened by Grover G. Gray in 1923, adding 5 additional claims in 1936 to form the Cowboy group of 6 unpatented claims.
Mineralization is a vein deposit with a lenticular ore body hosted in the Hillside Mica Schist, intruded on the East by granite and cut by granite porphyry dikes. Vein filling consists of narrow, lenticular masses of brecciated jasper together with more or less coarsely crystalline, shiny gray quartz. Ore control was faulting and shearing. Ore concentration was oxidation at neqar surface. No alteration was noted. Associated rock units include the Lawler Peak Granite and quartz monzonite porphyry dikes.
The Cowboy vein is a small irregular quartz vein striking N.10º to 30ºW. and dipping 50º to 80ºW. It has a maximum width of 3 feet, but commonly is not more than 1 foot wide. The vein crops out in the Hillside mica schist near its contact with Lawler Peak granite. The oxide zone ranged from 25 to 150 feet in depth.
Area structures include foliation in the schist that trends N-S to N20W with major N-S-trending faults.
Workings include a 200 foot deep inclined shaft and about 700 feet of drifts.
