A former underground Au-Ag-Cu-Be-Mo-Pb mine located in Rackensack Gulch, about 4 miles (or 2 miles) upstream from Cave Creek highway bridge. Owned by L.E. Hewins (1934). Produced 1915 to 1951.
Mineralization is a 2 foot wide vein deposit. Ore is allegedly in a dike. Structure locally is a granitic intrusion at Gold Hill, with related NE fracturing. NE-trending fractures and dikes, probably Tertiary in age.
Workings include a 50 foot deep shaft with a 60 foot long tunnel (1881). Produced more than $1,000 of Au (1931-1934 timeframe)(period values).
