A former underground Au-Ag-Cu-Zn-Pb mine located on Slate Creek (near the head), about ½ mile East of the Dos Oris Mine and about 4 miles South of the Senator Mine; 14 miles from Prescott. Started in the 1860's (1869 [?]) or early 1870's. Produced 1874-1961. Reopened August, 1933. Owned by the Davis-Dunkirk Mines (1925- ); and, by Mr. Caspari of Prescott 1926). Claims (Continued): Van Hook; Davis; Murphy; Poverty; Retort; Cresent; Indiana; Douglas; General Otis; Captain Lyman. Claims extend into sec. 2.

Mineralization is a large vein of sulfide ore averaging 5 feet (1.5 meters) wide by 2 miles long! Moderately fissile Precambrian schist is intruded by stocks and dikes of granodiorite and diorite and a few dikes of rhyolite porphyry. The mine workings are mainly in the schist. The Dunkirk vein is in a fault fissure striking NE-ward and dipping nearly vertically SE-ward. The vein is a few inches to 3 feet wide. Filling is mainly coarse-grained, grayish-white quartz with sulfides. Ore control was faulting and shearing. Ore concentration was oxidation at near surface. Alteration was none to minor silicification in wall rocks.

Area structures include dikes and veins parallel to foliation in Precambrian rocks which trends N25E.

Workings include a tunnel nearly 100 feet long; a 100 foot deep winze and more than 6,000 feet of adits, raises, & stopes. Production reported ay about $200,000 (period values).
