Abbadia San Salvatore mine, active in the period 1899-1972 and located 1 km west of Abbadia San Salvatore, was the most important mercury mine of the Monte Amiata mining district, situated around the volcanic complex of Amiata Mt. (part in Siena Province, part in Grosseto Province).
A mining park/museum is just SW of the mine ('Parco Museo Minerario die Abbadia San Salvatore').
