Chromite ore
Note on donathite:
Donath (1931)reported a zinc-rich chromite from Ramberget and from Værnesfjell, and published 2 analysis. Later Seeliger and Mücke (I969), on the basis of the original analyses and XRD analyses found that this is not a Zn-rich chromite, but a tetragonal mineral, and described this as a new mineral, Donathite. Moore (1977) reinvestigated the mineral but failed to reveal the presence of zinc in amounts greater than traces(approximately o. 3 % ZnO). Analyses of a sample of the original material described by Donath (193I) also gave similar results. Later Burns et al.(1997)showed it to be a mixture of 2 spinel minerals and descredited donathite as a mineral species.
