Bassin minier de Varangéville-Dombasle

280 000 tons of halite are worked out every year.


Le bassin minier Varangeville-Dombasle est situé à environ 20 kilomètres au sud est de Nancy. Ces dépôts de sel gemme sont intercalées dans des couches argilo-calcaire avec anhydrite. Ces formations ont été découverte vers l’année 1820 et elles ont été exploitées durant de nombreuses années par galeries et par lessivage ( introduction d’eau sous pression et pompage de la saumure )

The coalfield Varangeville-Dombasle is located approximately 20 kilometers southeast of Nancy. This deposit of rock salt are intercalated in clay layers of limestone with anhydrite. These formations have been discovered around the year 1820 and they have been exploited for many years by galleries and leaching (introduction of water under pressure and pumping the brine)
