Structure: Pegmatite Dikes
Tectonics: Sangre De Cristo Uplift
Deposit: The pegmatite is a pod-like body that trends north-northeast in conformity to the strike of the foliation of the amphibole schist country rock. The pegmatite dips slightly west-northwest in contrast to the steep east-southeast dip of the country rock. A zonal structure is evident with an inner core of massive quartz and three outer zones. The rare-earth and uranium mineralization was found on the west and north sides of the pit along the upper contact of a mica-rich "streak". Minerals present include smoky quartz, columbite, hatchettolite, uraninite, samarskite, euxenite (or fergusonite, bismutite, and gummite. Gangue minerals include microcline, albite-oligoclase and quartz. Jahns (1946) provides an excellent description of the deposit.
Geology: The precambrian in this area has no formal name.
Ore(s): Pegmatite Dikes
