In the XVI century on the rocks at the north end of Mola Bay was build up the spanish fortress of Longone. On the other end was built up Forte Focardo making the bay sure against Saracens attacks.
Under the fortress born a little town on the sea, Porto Longone, today renamed Porto Azzurro.
In her territory there are iron mineralizations, some of wich knowned from ancient times.
