(Uglvik, Otrøy, Midsund kommune, Møre og Romsdal fylke, Norge)
A orogenic garnet peridotite body within the Scandinavian Caledonides located about 3 km NE of Midsund (the center of the municipality with the same name) on Oterøy Island. The Uglvik garnet peridotite consist of interbanded variable composition with 50 % garnet peridotite and 50 % garnet free peridotite.
Cr annd V - bearing pyrope from Uglvik are showing a"alexandrite-like effect", having a violette colour in daylight and a winered color in artificial light. These has also been cutted as gems.
Van Roermund et al (2000) reported evidence for petrographic and mineral chemical characteristics of relict super-silicic (majoritic) garnet microstructure in the in the Uglvik (Uglevik) garnet peridotite.
