Tin deposits in the northeastern part of the Gejiu ore field, hosted in Middle Triassic marine carbonates, and associated with late Yanshannian (Cretaceous) 120 to 65 Ma granitoids (an early 90.4 ±6.3 Ma porphyritic granite and a late 81 ±4.9 Ma equigranular granite). Ore is found in tin-bearing skarns in the aureole of the porphyritic granites and as hydrothermal tin-polymetallic mineralizations within faults overlapping with and distal from the skarn and granite bodies. Deposits in the Malage ore field had well developed polymetallic oxidation zones extending to depths of about 100 m from surface, which have been largely mined out.

The ore field covers an area of about 30 km2 and comprises four mines: Malage, Laoyinshan, Yinjiadong and Bainidong.
