Pinetop Mine (Pine Top Mine; Pinetops deposits; Falls group of claims; Falls group prospect; Lucky Seven), Mule Hoof Bend (Oxbow Bend), Salt River, Salt River District, San Carlos Indian Reservation, Gila Co., Arizona, USA

Latitude: 33°46'36"N
Longitude: 110°31'0"W
A former underground asbestos mine/occurrence located in sec. 19, T4N, R18E, 1 mile SSW of the US highway 60-77 bridge, on a hill overlooking the Mule Hoof Bend of the river, on Indian Reservation land. Discovered 1941 and first produced 1942.

Mineralization is an exceptional stratigraphic position. The vicinity of the upper part of the algal (middle) member of the Mescal Limestone is comprised of impure, flat-bedded limestones 6 inches (15 cm) to 2 feet (0.6 meters) thick, rather than of the thick-bedded algae-bearing limestones that make up most of the middle member.

Two asbestos-serpentine zones 8 feet apart, occur near the top of the middle member of Mescal Limestone.

Area structures include a nearly vertical fault with a downthrow on the north of some 100 feet, and trends a little N of E.

Workings include 4 adits (1946), 2 at 140 feet long. Production was some 125 tons of harsh fiber and 2 to 3 tons of soft fiber (prior to 1943), plus a few hundred tons saince WWII.

Assay data: Some long, harsh to good quality asbestos fiber.
