Candelaria Mine, Larecaja Province, La Paz Department, Bolivia
A tungsten mine in contact-metamorphosed arenaceous shales (now hornfels and skarn) between the Illampu and Yani-Rosas batholiths, at 4,100 m elevation. Not recognized until 1950 because the outcrop was hidden by scree. Large quantities of scheelite (without tourmaline, unlike other tungsten mines in this region), and occasional large cassiterite crystals. Ref: Ahlfeld, F. & Schneider-Scherbina, A.
