Abandoned fluorite mine which started as a silver mine in the 17th century (Ag-bearing galena); later sphalerite was also mined.
The deposit consists of a 1 km long fluorite vein, up to 4 m in thickness, and is located at the contact between Brixner Granite and Brixner Quartz Phyllite.
Access is no longer possible (flooded underground workings, dumps removed, main entrance to the mine used as a chicken coop).
Located 34 km N of Bozen, at an altitude of 1.250 m.

The mine is famous for fluorite crystals, generally cubic in habit, sometimes combined with octahedral, rhombododecahedral, icositetrahedral, deltoidal icositetrahedral, hexakisoctahedral and tetrakishexahedral faces. Colourless crystals often show an exceptional optical clarity (optical grade fluorite); pale green and milky crystals are less common. Fluorescence under UV light is strong.

Note: not to be confused with the localities 'Corvara in Passiria (Rabenstein)' and 'Corvara (Corvara in Badia)'.
