(Schellgaden, Murwinkel, Lungau, Salzburg, Österreich)
Ancient gold mining area, worked intermittently from 1354 until around 1900. The synsedimentary-stratiform deposits, located both south and north of Schellgaden, are hosted by highly metamorphous quartzites, micaschists and amphibolites, which are believed to represent an eastern extension of the Habach formation. Due to tectonical influences, the deposits appear to consist of several separate levels. Gold and silver were associated to sulphidic ores which formed layers in quartz. They did occur both freely crystallized and as inclusions in sulphides. The mean gold contents of the ores ranged from 37.7 g/t (Stüblbau Mine) to 49.1 g/t (Schulterbau Mine). Recently, some of the mines were re-worked for scheelite.
