Ivö klack kalkstens- och kaolinbrott
During the geological mapping of Ivön in 1884 a large amount of limestone blocks was found at Blaksudden (northern point of Ivö island). This led to the opening of a limestone quarry and in 1886 kaolinite was found underneath.
1889 opened the first kaolinite quarry- 1891 the "old quarry" and in 1902 the "new" quarry.
Ivöverken company took over both the limestone and kaolinite quarries in 1903.
Drilling showed that maximum thickness of the kaolinite layer is 40m.
During the years the different quarries merged in to one. Operations closed in the 1950ies.
Both the island and the quarry is rich in fossils, eg; brachiopoda, ammonite, belemnites
