Freßnitzgraben, Krieglach, Fischbacher Alpen Mts, Styria, Austria

(Freßnitzgraben, Krieglach, Fischbacher Alpen, Steiermark, Österreich)

The first finds of lazulite in this area date back to 1783, but the mineral was confused at that time with azurite, vivianite or even feldspar. The type locality of lazulite can only broadly be given as "Freßnitzgraben". It could be "Wegscheidkreuz", but old literature and old labels (but also often modern labels...) mention only "Freßnitzgraben" or "Krieglach". Moreover, lazulite can also be found as transported boulders along and in the creek Freßnitzbach itself, which flows into the river Mürz in the small village Freßnitz, just west of Krieglach.
