Along the north side of U.S. Highway 40, 0.8 mi east of the Genesee Park exit of I-70 and about 1 mi northeast of Genesee Mountain. A roadcut exposes a calc-silicate unit in Precambrian gneiss (see Kile and Modreski, 1994). ("Minerals of Colorado, updated & revised", p. 19, by Eckel, Edwin B., 1997)
Astrophyllite has been discreditted from site. The site now has a shiny new "State of Colorado Property-No Trespassing" sign as of 1/12/2010.
