Troy Mine; Troy-Arizona Mine; Troy-Manhattan Mine; Troy Copper Co. property
A former underground Cu-Ag-Au mine located in the center sec. 26, T3S, R14E (Sonora 7.5 minute topo map), about 1Β½ mile N of E from Tiger Mountain and about ΒΌ mile W of the Gila County line, on BLM-administered land. The property in Pinal country is comprised of 13 unpatented claims in 1956. The entire group of claims, going into Gila Co. includes 54 claims. Produced 1903-1945. Operated by the Inspiration Copper Co. (1965). Past operators included the Universal Copper Corp.; the Troy Copper Company; and the Troy Manhattan Company.
Mineralization is hosted in Mescal Limestone, Dripping Springs Quartzite, and the Troy Quartzite. The ore body was tablar / irregular. Ore control was fissures and veins near rhyolite dikes. An associated rock unit is the Rattler Granodiorite. Area structures include an adjacent ENE-trending fault and a rhyodacite porphyry dike that trends E-W. Regional strata strike E-W and dips. Probably associated with granodiorite intrusion, or at least the intrusion caused channels for later mineralization.
Workings include 3 tunnels, at least one adit 160 feet deep in 1944.
