Granite pegmatite.
Colton Hill Quarry was nearly overtaken by the Barbour Quarry excavation in the 1970's. The Colton Hill Quarry is about 10 meters higher in elevation directly upslope from the Barbour Quarry.
Two unusual pegmatite minerals occur here: wulfenite and pyromorphite. The wulfenite crystals are bright orange with columnar habit to 2 mm, while the pyromorphite occurs in small bright green patches (to 2 mm), both in vugs in white albite.
Colton Hill has three nearly contiguous locations closely spaced on a steep slope. Technically, the uppermost excavation is the original Colton Hill Quarry, while the middle excavation, about 10 meters lower in elevation is the Barbour Quarry. The Lower Colton Hill Prospect is another 15-20 meters lower in elevation and is insignificant at the moment.
