CopaleCopalite localities, Sava Region, Antsiranana Province, Madagascar
In 1991-1995 several tons of
copalite (copal) ( 2 M.A. old ?) were found and exploited in several small sites in the rainy forest around Sambava and Vohemar. These were first sold at the market as "Madagascar ambre". The localities are said to be empty.
Copalite from this area has erronously been labelled as coming from Northern Madiaomby, which probably refers to the
Madiaomby pegmatite.
