Copper mine which opened in 1877 and imported 200 employees from other parts of Japan at time of peak production. Closed in 1940, after which it was used for underground navy ammunition storage for the rest of WW2. Ore was pyritiferous quartz in slate and phyllite of the Naze Formation. Slags have been exposed to seawater here and there is some minor development of secondary copper-bearing phases in slag vesicles.
