Ref.: Adams, G.I., and W.B. Jones (1940), Barite deposits of Alabama, Alabama Geol. Survey Bull. 45; Brobst, D.A. (1958), Barite Resources of the United States, USGS Bull. 1072-B: 106 (Table 10).

Residual barite deposits related to Chepultepec dolomite of Early Ordovician and Copper Ridge dolomite of Late Cambrian age.

The deposits are in residual clay overlying bedrock containing thin veins of barite.
