Sandstone quarry originally opened for railroad ballast and gravel. Last operated in conjunction with now abandoned port and oil storage facilities by Arco and Amoco Oil. The quarry and the surrounding area are slated to be developed into a luxury village.
The quarry was once popular for structural geology field trips.
