This small mine is recorded as being drained by the "Roman" level, but it appears that this applied to any pre-1700 centry working. It could well mean that the workings are even pre- Roman. Lewis Morris about 1750 stated that the ore was rich in lead and silver, but diificult to work due to the hardness of the spar (quartz). The mine was reopened in 1853, but these were probably only triels associated with owners of Gwaith Yr Afon mine just across the valley.
