Peña Blanca Mine (Peñas Blancas Mine), San Pablo de Borbur, Vasquez-Yacopí Mining District, Boyacá Department, Colombia

Most northern of all emerald mines in the Western Emerald Bearing Belt (Boyacá, Colombia), also known as the Vasquez - Yacopí Disctrict. The mineralogy of Peñas Blancas is very different to that found in the other mines in Colombia, particulary because of the absence of pyrite and other sulphides and the presence of fluorite crystals of up to 40 cm between aristes. It is also known as the only mine in the world where the "trapiche" emerald is found.
