The geography is a bit confusing. The actual five islands (i.e. Five Islands) are located near the town of Five Islands. There is also Five Islands Provincial Park, which includes Moose and part of the mainland. The islands, from east to west, are Moose, Diamond, Long, Egg, and Pinnacle, with the Pinnacle Rock at the end. The county line (border with Colchester Co.) passes between the islands. Moose and the town are in Colchester County, however, since most of the minerals comes from the other islands, which are in Cumberland County, the locality is listed under that county.
Long and Diamond Islands are basalt. Egg Island is sandstone. Moose and Pinnacle Islands are basalt capping sandstone and both rocks types are found at different points along their shorelines.
