Granophyre intrusion, in a context of greenschist facies Fe-rich Ordovician metabasite intrusions.
Ref.: Bloxham & Price, 1961
Described stipnomelane from the Cregenan intrusion exposed near Arthog as forming sharply terminated laths arranged either as radiating sheafs or as "bow-tie" aggregates.
NB: Ordnance Survey grid ref.is for the hamlet of Arthog mentioned above and is not a specific mineral locality.
NB: Cregenen is a small lake on the lower slopes of Cader Idris. However the OS maps spell the lake as Cregennen and the mountain as Cadair Idris. Cadair Idris means "the chair of Idris" in Welsh. The anglicised form Cader Idris is often found, particularly in older English-language sources, but not exclusively so; indeed, it is frequently used by Welsh speakers, even those local to the area. However, Cadair Idris is the form used on modern maps and by most respected authors, and many Welsh speakers regard Cader as incorrect.
