The Commisariat à l 'Energie Atomique (CEA) exploited this deposit for uranium between 1946 and 1952. It is situated about 10 km south of the city Antsirabe in the central highland of Madagascar. Uranocircite & autunite has been found in sandy argiles of plio-pleistocene origin. An extensive large plain of plio-pleistocene origin starts at the border of the Ankaratra mountain range further in the North and ends in the south at Vinankarena.
