A former lode Au mine located in the NW¼ (estimated) sec. 23, T6N, R13E, MDM, 1.6 km (1.0 mile) NNW of Independence (on the ridge on the S side of the South Fork Mokelumne River, 1¾ miles N of Railroad Flat). Operated during the 1870's, 1880's & 1890's. MRDS database stated accuracy for this location is 100 meters.

NOTE: USGS MRDS file #10029333 presents geographic coordinates of 120.51351W, 38.27547N, which places the mine in sec. 23, T5N, and is in obvious error. The correct latitude value is found in MRDS file #10235172.

Mineralization is a vein deposit hosted in mica schist. The ore body is a vein 1½ to 13 feet thick (3.96 meters maximum) with a nearly vertical dip. Local rocks include Paleozoic marine rocks, undivided, unit 4 (Western Sierra Nevada).

Workings include underground openings comprised of adits and a winze.

Production data are found in: Clark, Wm. B. & P.A. Lydon (1962).

No production record was found. Prospected again around 1925 and again during the period 1934-1935.
