A former placer hydraulic/drift Au occurrence/mine located in sec. 10, T4N, R13E, MDM, 2.0 km (1.3 miles) SSE of Mountain Ranch, S of Dirty Gulch. Owned by George and Frieda Kenefick. Operated prior to 1911 and during the 1930's. MRDS database stated accuracy for this location is 1,000 meters.
Mineralization is a placer Au deposit located on the El Dorado paleochannel. This is a steep-sided channel with a maximum of 25 feet of auriferous gravel capped by 10 feet of clay, rhyolite ash, gravel, and soil. The gravel is chiefly sub-angular schist, with some quartzite and minor quartz. The bedrock was cut by another channel 15 feet deep and 200 feet wide, containing 5 feet of sub-angular quartzite gravel, as visible in the SW pit (now flooded). Local rocks include Paleozoic marine rocks, undivided, unit 4 (Western Sierra Nevada).
Workings included surface openings comprised of hydraulic pits and dragline operations.
