A placer Au occurrence located in the SE¼ sec. 25, T5N, R11E, MDM, about 3 km NE of Golden Gate Hill, along Old Woman Gulch, N of Lombardi Ranch (3½ miles SSW of Mokelumne Hill (town)). Owned by a Mr. Courtley. Operated prior to and in the late 1940's, and during 1957. MRDS database stated accuracy for this location is 100 meters.
Mineralization is a placer Au deposit on the Deep Blue Lead or Concentrator paleochannel. The gravel is uncemented and contains many 6 inch (15 cm,) diameter cobbles. The Au is 80% flour. Small nuggets of melon seed size are clean, flat, and well-worn. Local rocks include Paleozoic marine rocks, undivided, unit 4 (Western Sierra Nevada) and/or Jurassic marine rocks, unit 1 (Western Sierra Nevada and Western Klamath Mountains).
Workings include underground openings. The reconditioning of the old 40, vertical shaft began in October (year = ??). A 90 foot drift was to have been driven to the NE by December, 1957. The old 300 foot shaft to the SE was worked in the late 1940's. The gravel was washed in a small trommel, Knudson bowl and sluices.
