A stone deposit/quarry located in the NW¼ sec. 29, T4N, R15E, MDM, 2.7 km (1.7 miles) E of Red Apple, on the upper E slope of Rattlesnake Hill, on National Forest land (3 miles SSW of Avery Post Office). Operated during the period 1951-1952. MRDS database stated accuracy for this location is 100 meters.
Product is a very hard rhyolite stained and colored by groundwater. Local rocks include Paleozoic marine rocks, undivided, unit 4 (Western Sierra Nevada).
Workings include surface openings comprised of a quarry 60 feet long and 15 feet high at the face. The rock was blasted and hand trimmed.
Product was marketed as wallrock and garden stone.
