A placer Au occurrence/mine located in secs. 34 & 35, T12N, R8E, MDM, 4.1 km (2.5 miles) WNW of Pilot Hill and about 5 km NNE of Goose Flat, along the North Fork American River at its confluence with Cooper Canyon, on federal land. MRDS database stated accuracy for this location is 1,000 meters. This area is now included in land withdrawn for a federal reservoir site. Work was done in 1924-1925 on a small area believed to have been unworked. Operations were unsuccessful as it was discovered that the area had been worked years before.

Local rocks include Mesozoic volcanic rocks, unit 2 (Western Sierra Foothills and Western Klamath Mountains).

Excavated by barge-mounted suction pump which discharged to sluice boxes with the nozzle guided by a diver.
