In Gneiss, Schist, and Granite Pegmatite

On lots 23 and 24, concession XII, Carlow township, several outcrops in open fields, 1/4 mile south of the New Carlow-Combermere road, are composed of kyanite-sillimanite-garnet-biotite paragneiss.

The kyanite occurs in bluebladed crystals up to 1/4 inch in diameter. Needle-like aggregates of sillimanite occur with the garnet and kyanite. The amount of kyanite and sillimanite is small, rarely exceeding 5-10 percent, and the bands are narrow and interbanded with biotite paragneiss.
