Alicante, located on the Costa Blanca coast on the eastern edge of Spain is not noted for its mineralogical diversity, however there are a small number of very interesting mineral localities within the region.
Mineralogical highlights of the region include the
Celestine crystals from
Arneva,
Clinozoisite/
Epidote and Quartz from the
Los Serranos Quarry, and of course
Gypsum from the Gypsum quarry at
Verdegás.
Pseudohexagonal
Magnesite crystals are found in a gypsum matrix at
Albatera.
The University of Alicante (Universidad de Alicante)
Department of Earth Sciences maintains a mineral collection, and a local mineralogical society, the
Grupo Mineralógico de Alicante arranges mineral collecting trips within the region for members.
