Alicante, Valencian Community, Spain

Alicante, located on the Costa Blanca coast on the eastern edge of Spain is not noted for its mineralogical diversity, however there are a small number of very interesting mineral localities within the region.

Mineralogical highlights of the region include the Celestine crystals from Arneva, Clinozoisite/Epidote and Quartz from the Los Serranos Quarry, and of course Gypsum from the Gypsum quarry at Verdegás.
Pseudohexagonal Magnesite crystals are found in a gypsum matrix at Albatera.

The University of Alicante (Universidad de Alicante) Department of Earth Sciences [Link Broken? Jul 2011] maintains a mineral collection, and two local mineralogical societies, the Grupo Mineralógico de Alicante arranges mineral collecting trips within the region for members, and Asociacion Mineralógica Paleontológica San Vicente del Raspeig.
