A former lode Au-Cu-Pb mine located in the E½ sec. 7 & in the W½ sec. 8, T3S, R18E, MDM, 0.9 km (2,800 feet) SSW of Texas Hill (coordinates of record) (2 miles SW of the U.S. Forest Service Kinsley guard station), on private and National Forest land. Discovered in 1865. The property consisted of 1 patented claim of 20.66 acres plus several adjacent unpatented claims. Operated by G. Ross Frank and Mary E. Shell, C/O W. J. Beatty. MRDS database stated accuracy for this location is 1,000 meters.
Local rocks include Paleozoic marine rocks, undivided, unit 4 (Western Sierra Nevada).
Workings include underground openings comprised of 3 drift adits, each several hundred feet long. A winze connects the lower and middle tunnels.
Production information: Produced about 3,200 tons of ore during the period 1919-1943. Known production is about $74,000 (period values). Ore produced during the period 1941-1943 averaged about 1/3 ounce Au & 1/5 ounce Ag per ton, plus a little Cu & Pb. Prior to that time ore had run approximately $20.00 (period values) per ton. Idle since 1943. Concentrates shipped contained recoverable Pb & Cu. Most of the ore was treated at the mine and bullion recovered directly.
