The Ashbed Mining Company organized in 1880 to work the old Petherick Mining properties to see if the Ashbed Lode could be mined further. The property contained two adits which were worked between 1880 and 1882 and almost 99,000 pounds of copper were removed. Work resumed in 1899 and several tons of masses were removed. More exploratory work was conducted in 1900 when a large mass of copper was recovered, but work was again halted because of the hit and miss nature of the Ashbed. In 1905, a new inclined shaft was started and drifting continued until 1907, when the mining operation was closed for good. Some of the minerals that can be found include copper, analcime, and datolite crystals with copper inclusions.
