A former lode Au occurrence/mine located in the S½SE¼ (estimated) sec. 15, T14N, R11E, MDM, 2.2 km (1.3 miles) NE of Michigan Bluff, E of Chicken Hawk Ridge and W of El Dorado Canyon, on private land within a National Forest area. The property comprises 19 acres with 2 locations on the south extension of the Daniel Webster claim. MRDS database stated accuracy for this location is 500 meters.
NOTE: The USGS MRDS database presents confusing data regarding the Daniel Webster and the Champion Mines. The Champion Mine is placed 0.5 km (0.3 mile) NE of the Daniel Webster and is said to be located on the South extension of the Daniel Webster claim. This would seem illogical. Both mines' file in the MRDS reference both names in one manner or another. It would seem that the Champion Mine is on the North extension of the Daniel Webster claim. Clark (1970a) lists both mines as separate entities.
Mineralization is a vein deposit hosted in slate. The ore body strikes N and dips 75E at a thickness of 0.91 meter. The vein is 3 feet thick. Local rocks include Tertiary pyroclastic and volcanic mudflow deposits, unit 9 (Cascade Range).
Workings include underground openings with a length of 45.72 meters and an overall depth of 36.58 meters and comprised of a shaft and a tunnel (adit ?).
