A former Hg mine located 0.7 km (2,300 feet) WSW of Sampson Peak.
Mineralization is hosted in rocks of the Franciscan Formation (Jurassic) (serpentine and sandstone, and in the Panoche Formation (Upper Cretaceous) (sandstone and shale).
Local structures include the N70W-trending Coalinga anticline, the New Idria thrust fault, and a tear fault.
