A former Pb occurrence/mine located within the city limits of Bonne Terre. Billed as "The World's Largest Lead Mine."
Workings are huge caverns to 375 feet deep, previously operated by the St. Joe Lead Company and mined for almost 100 years (1864-1962, according to Wikipedia). Currently owned by Doug and Catherine Goergens (West End Diving) and open (on weekends only) for underground scuba diving. Water temperature is 14.5 C year-round.
Access from Bonne Terre exit on Highway 67, south of St. Louis.
