A former Au-Ag-Cu-Pb occurrence/mine located in sec. 17, T2N, R2E, SBM, 1.2 km (0.7 mile) NNE of Woodlands, 2.7 km (1.7 miles) S of Baldwin Lake (town), and 4.3 km (2.7 miles) E of Big Bear City, on National Forest land. The property is comprised of 12 Au-Ag claims. MRDS database stated accuracy for this location is 10 meters.
Mineralization is a vein deposit hosted in quartzite, diabase and monzonite. The ore body strikes E and dips 35-45N at a thickness of 3.05 meters. Controls for ore emplacement included bedding planes of quartzite, near the contact of diabase and monzonite. A series of parallel veins at 2 to 10 feet thick occur along bedding planes. Local rocks include Paleozoic marine rocks, undivided, unit 1 (Mojave Desert and Death Valley area).
Workings include surface and underground openings with an overall depth of 16.46 meters and comprised of shafts and 100 feet of trenches, a crosscut adit at 1,200 feet long with 200 feet of drifts plus several additional adits. See Tucker & Sampson for details of workings.
Production data are found in: Goodwin, Joseph Grant (1957).
A small amount of ore produced in 1942 ran 12.82 ounces Ag/ton and 8.78% Pb and had recoverable Cu & Au.
Analytical data results: ore was said to be low-grade.
