A former lode Au-Ag-Cu occurrence/mine located in secs. 12, 13 & 24, T9N, R20E, SBM, 4.9 km (3.0 miles) NNW of Flattop Mountain (summit)(2 miles E of South Pass (pass); 0.4 mile N of Interstate highway 40 (old highway 66). Discovered in 1883. MRDS database stated accuracy for this location is 100 meters. All 3 USGS MRDS database files presents slightly discrepant geographic coordinates. The coordinates used in this Mindat file place the mine at the mining symbols on the topo map.

Mineralization is hosted in rhyodacite and tuff. The ore body strikes ENE and dips N at a thickness of 0.15 meter. The deposit includes copper-stained quartz stringers. Local rocks include Precambrian igneous and metamorphic rock complex and/or Precambrian rocks, undivided, unit 2 (Mojave Desert and Transverse Ranges).

Workings include surface and underground openings with an ooverall depth of 21.34 meters and comprised of shafts and many pits. A 10-stamp mill was erected in 1894.
