Setting:
The Magee quarry is dimensional stone quarry located in the NE4SW4SE4 Sec. 19, T9S, R1W, SBM; approximately 3.25 miles (5.23 km) east-northeast of Pala, on the southeastern slope of Slice mountain. The rock consists of a very dark gray gabbro which comprises boulders as large as 20 feet in diameter.

History:
An 80 acre property operated by Robert J. Magee from 1922 to 1934; by Riverside Monumental Works in 1945; by National Quarries from 1946 to 1957; and by Allied Granite Company from 1957 onward. According to Weber, the property was owned by Paul Magee and two brothers in 1958.

Riverside marketed the stone as "Mission black granite", and National Quarries marketed the stone as "Pala black granite" for use as monuments.

Note: Need to include access road lawsuit and judgment involving Pala Band of Mission Indians, including references.
